Andrea gives son gift of life for the second time

Andrea MacDonald (45) has successfully donated a kidney to her son and granted him the gift of life for the second time. When Andrea heard her son, Chris (28) needed a kidney transplant to save his life; she didn’t hesitate in offering her son one of her own organs. Although Andrea was successfully matched as a donor, and was willing to do anything to save his life at 21 stone and morbidly obese, the risks involved in the life donor transplant were too high. Doctors at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, where Chris lives said she needed to lose 5 stone before they considered a transplant.

To ensure she lost the weight both quickly and safely, Andrea embarked on the LighterLife Programme, the only clinically supervised very-low-calorie diet which could get her to her target weight rapidly, to make the life-saving move. After reaching her initial target of losing 5 stone in just 6 months, she went on to lose another 2 stone.

Thanks to Andrea’s fast weight-loss and fantastic gift the family will be starting the New Year with a new lease of life. Recently married Chris can not thank his mum enough for the gift which will mean he and his new wife Gemma can start their married life not in sickness but in health. Whilst Andrea, doctors have confirmed, will go on to lead a normal, healthy and lighter life!
