Discussion boards information sheet
(go to discussion board)
What are discussion boards?
The Talking LighterLife discussion boards are where you can ask your questions and get support and advice from others on the LighterLife programme.
Only LighterLife clients can participate in the discussion boards, but everybody can read them.
On the main discussion board page you will see a number of different topics. These are called discussion groups, for example LighterLife Lite, LighterLife Total. Pick the group that is most relevant to you and click on the title to go in and start talking.
Remember, there is nothing to stop you talking in more than one group. You might find that some groups are more active than others so have a look around and see where you are most comfortable.
What happened to the old Talking LighterLife forum?
The original Talking LighterLife forum was very popular, but it was time to make it more useful and usable. Unfortunately we have not been able to move all the content from the old Talking LighterLife to the new one, but you can still read all the content at http://community.lighterlife.com.
How can I join the discussion boards?
To join the discussion boards you will need to be a member of LighterLife and registered on the forum. If you are a client and you haven't registered yet, simply visit the member area and fill in your details, including the membership number that your Counsellor gave you, and choose a username and password.
As soon as you click "submit" you will be taken to a page with a link "Talking LighterLife". Click on this link and you will be taken straight to Talking LighterLife and you will be able to join in the conversation immediately.
Can I just start chatting anywhere?
The discussion boards have been broken down into different groups to make it easier for you to find the information that's most relevant for you. For example you will see a few different headings including LighterLife Total and LighterLife Lite, but you can join in any of the discussions in any of the groups.
How can I start a new topic?
Find the group that you think the topic is most relevant to, click on the link to enter the group, and then just click on the button marked "Create topic" and get started.
Before you start a new topic we recommend that you check through and see if there is a similar topic that you can tag your thoughts or questions on to - but that's just to make sure that the discussion board stays easy for users to navigate and use.
If you don't feel like browsing through everything you can do a search for a keyword or a keyphrase and see if any results come back. So, for example, if you are looking for information on "Foodpacks", type Foodpacks into the search box and click on the ">>" button. The system will show you any topics with this word in and you will be able to see if any of these are relevant to you.
How can I find information on the discussion boards?
If you're looking for something specific on the discussion boards do a search. Each group has a search feature, so if you can't find the search bar please make sure you are in the group you want to search through.
For example, if you are looking for information on "mixing foodpacks", go to either the LighterLife Total or LighterLife Lite group, type "mixing foodpacks" into the search box and click on the ">>" button.
All topics that have been created with your chosen words in will be displayed and you will be able to see if any of these are relevant to you.
How can I add formatting to my comment?
If your post is coming out in one long stream and you want to put it in paragraphs just put <p> in all the places where you want to have a paragraph break.
So, if you're wishing everyone good luck it might look something like this:
Good luck all<p>
What if I see a topic I would like to comment on?
Underneath the topic you will see a button marked "reply". Just click on this and a box will pop up allowing you to type a reply.
If you add something but change your mind and want to change it, its also simple. Just click on the "edit" link and revise your text.
What are the "tags" for?
The tags allow you to choose keywords that you think might interest people that they can search on. So, for example, if you put up a post about mixing foodpacks make sure you have given it tags that will help people find it.
